Is Google Maps not a potentially dangerous source for Indiaโs defense? Google is an American company, so it will naturally prioritize American interests. That is understandable. But when it raises the banner of another countryโs defense while simultaneously making that country easily accessible to its enemies, can it still be considered just a business?
On Google Maps, many U.S. military structures are hidden or obscured using modified or blurred maps for defense reasons. You may find a general area, but detailed information about that location is not available. In contrast, military establishments in various other countries are shown on the map without being concealed.
Many important defense establishments in India can be viewed by anyone on Google Maps. In fact, sensitive security-related locations are displayed without any deliberate masking. As a result, Google Maps can become a significant tool for hostile forces, especially for planning air raids.
For this reason, powerful and American-opposed countries such as Russia, China, and North Korea have banned Google Maps. Google does not own its own satellites; instead, it leases satellite data from various American companies to conduct ground scanning.
Just as U.S. defense facilities have been obscured, military and important defense centers of other countries could also have been concealed. Since that has not been done, it clearly reflects a lack of good intent.
Various Indian defense locations and establishments can be easily seen on Google Maps. Even Air Force airstrips are clearly visible. This could make India an easy target for its enemies, effectively turning the country into a sitting duck in the event of war.
Therefore, the Indian government should immediately ban Google Maps in India and demand substantial financial compensation for allowing anti-India activities while conducting business in the country.
